No dia 5 de Setembro de 2013 foi publicado o Decreto-Lei nº 128/2013, com efeitos retroativos a dia 4 de Agosto, procedendo, entre outras alterações, a mudanças relevantes no Regime do Medicamento para Uso Humano regulado no Decreto-Lei nº 176/2006, de 30 de Agosto. Esta nova regulação da matéria visa essencialmente impedir a introdução na cadeia de abastecimento legal, dos medicamentos falsificados, por isso introduz um conceito de medicamento falsificado para que este se pode distinguir de forma clara dos outros medicamentos ilegais.
