Por ordem superior se torna público ter a República Árabe da Síria depositado, junto do Secretário -Geral da Organizaçáo das Naçóes Unidas, em 19 de Agosto de 2004, o seu instrumento de adesáo à Convençáo contra a Tortura e Outras Penas ou Tratamentos Cruéis, Desumanos ou Degradantes, adoptada pela Assembleia Geral das Naçóes Unidas em 17 de Dezembro de 1984.

Declaraçóes (Traduçáo) (Original: Árabe)

In accordance with the provisions of article 28, paragraph 1, of the Convention, the Syrian Arab Republic does not recognize the competence of the Committee against Torture provided for in article 20 thereof.

The accession of the Syrian Arab Republic to this Convention shall in no way signify recognition of Israel or entail entry into any dealings with Israel in the context of the provisions of this Convention.

The Convention will enter into force for the Syrian Arab Republic on 18 September 2004 in accordance with its article 27 (2) which reads as follows:

'For each State ratifying this Convention or acceding to it after the deposit of the twentieth instrument of ratification or accession, the Convention shall enter into force on the thirtieth day after the date of the deposit of its own instrument of ratification or accession.'

Em conformidade com as disposiçóes do artigo 28., n. 1, da Convençáo, a República Árabe da Síria náo reconhece a competência conferida ao Comité contra a Tortura pelo artigo 20.
