Por ordem superior se torna público ter o Botswana depositado, junto do Secretário -Geral da Organizaçáo das Naçóes Unidas, em 8 de Setembro de 2000, o seu instrumento de ratificaçáo à Convençáo contra a Tortura e Outras

716 Penas ou Tratamentos Cruéis, Desumanos ou Degradantes, adoptada pela Assembleia Geral das Naçóes Unidas em

17 de Dezembro de 1984, com a confirmaçáo da seguinte reserva emitida no momento da assinatura:

The Government of the Republic of Botswana considers itself bound by article 1 of the Convention to the extent that 'torture' means the torture and inhuman or degrading punishment or other treatment prohibited by Section 7 of the Constitution of the Republic of Botswana.

The Convention will enter into force for Botswana on 8 October 2000 in accordance with its article 27 (2) which reads as follows:

'For each State ratifying this Convention or acceding to it after the deposit of the twentieth instrument of ratification or accession, the Convention shall enter into force on the thirtieth day after the date of the deposit of its own instrument of ratification or accession.'

Traduçáo

O Governo da República do Botswana considera -se vinculado pelo artigo 1. da Convençáo, na medida em que o termo «tortura» designa a tortura e outras penas ou tratamentos desumanos ou degradantes proibidos pelo artigo 7. da Constituiçáo da República do Botswana.
